Creating a custom variable
Note: The scenario and procedure below uses UK data and geographies, as shown by some of the screenshots. However, the general procedure can be used for any other country.
If you need to add together the totals for two or more variables within the same group you can accomplish this by combining the individual variables into a single Custom Variable.
For example, to create a variable combining counts of Households estimate 2019 for Mosaic Groups A and B:
-
Click the
Data menu option. The Manage Data page is displayed.
-
In the Custom Variables section, click Create New. The Create Custom Variable window is displayed. Click on the image below to view the window.
- In the Available pane, drag the scroll bar to display Mosaic UK 7 and click on its + symbol.
- Drag the scroll bar to display Groups and click on its + symbol.
- Drag the scroll bar to display Households estimate 2019 and click on its + symbol.
- Click on A Alpha Territory (HH) and B Professional Rewards (HH). The Selected pane is updated.
- In the Name your custom variable text box, type a name for the custom variable, for example based on the name of the Mosaic Groups selected.
- In the Folder Name drop-down list, select folder into which you want to save the custom variable.
Note: Special characters are not currently supported. Please use only letters and numbers in your file name.
-
When the selection is complete, click
Save.
When you create a report, your custom variables are displayed at the top of the Available pane on the Select Variable(s) window; under Custom Variables > My Saved Variables and then the folder where you saved the custom variable. Click on the custom variable’s name to use it in the report. Click on the image below to view an example.
