Panning and zooming

You can move or pan around the map by clicking and dragging on the map in the required direction, or by using the left, right, up, and down cursor keys on your keyboard.

You can zoom in and out of the map in coarse or fine fractional increments (depending on the method used) until your data fills the full extent of the map view. This enables you to present and interpret your data on the map more clearly. The table below provides the information about each of the methods.

Zoom Increment

Click on the + or - zoom controls located in the top left-hand side of the map.

Fine.

Mouse wheel

Rotate the mouse wheel forwards or backwards.

Coarse.

+ and – keys on keyboard

Press the + or - keys on your keyboard. You can use the keys on the numeric keypad (on the right of the keyboard) or those on the numeric row (below the row of function keys).

Fine.

Shift and drag

Press shift on keyboard and drag a rectangular area across the map. The map zooms in so that the rectangle that was created fills the full extent of the view.

Fine.

Note: When you log-out of Location Analyst or if your session is interrupted or times-out the position and zoom level of map is saved and reused the next time you log in.
