Layers panel
When you have added some data to the Mapping section of Location Analyst you can control which layers you want to see, and how those layers look, in the Layers panel. Layers are displayed in the Layers panel under one of seven headings or categories:
- Brick Variable Files – for layers you have added using data files which you have previously imported and contain brick variables.
- Competitor Data – for layers you have added using competitor location databases such as ShopPoint – Retail Locations and CGA – Licensed Premises.
- Imported Data Files – for layers you have added using data files which you have previously imported and contain locations or customers. This does not include brick geographies or brick variables.
- Report Outputs – for layers you have added using the output of any of the following reports: the Assess Area Potential report from the Analyse Multiple Areas category and any of the reports from the Evaluate Local Competitors category.
- Saved Geographies – for layers you have added using data you have previously saved when you created a report; or when you created a catchment via the Mapping page (Catchments > Create Catchment) or the Manage Data page (Create Catchments - Status > Create Catchment); importing a shape file or importing a brick geography. It also applies to any saved geographies which have been shared with you by a colleague.
- Segmentation Layers – for layers you have added using a segmentation to which you have subscribed, e.g. Mosaic UK 7, Mosaic Australia, or Mosaic New Zealand.
- Standard Geographies – for layers you have added using a specific subscription-dependent geography such as a postal area, postal sector, or a custom variable that you have previously created or one to which you have a subscription; or any custom variables which have been shared with your by another memberof your group.
Within each category, layers are identified by their name and by an icon which is displayed to the left of the name. The type of icon that is displayed is dependent on the type of data within that layer. Any layer which uses a segmentation such as Mosaic UK 7, Mosaic New Zealand or Mosaic Australia are represented by a icon. Other layers are represented by hollow or filled circles, squares, stars, and triangles. You can change the shape, border and fill colours of the icons that are displayed on the map and in the Layers panel using the Edit layer styling pane (see Layer styling panel).
The Layers panel includes a Keep this panel open? option. If you select Yes (default) then the Layers panel will always be open when you display the Mapping page. If you select No then the Layers panel only opens when you move your mouse cursor over the panel icon. When you move your mouse cursor off the Layers panel, it automatically closes.
Note: After a session and you have logged out, all layers will be switched off when you log back in.
