Dashboard overview
Most reports are available in dashboard format. This format presents your data on tabs providing you with interactive charts or graphs; graphics; text and supplementary pop-up information. These dashboards make it very easy for you to analyse your data and get the most from it.
This topic provides an overview about all dashboard content; filters and controls; popup information; retention period; creation and management of views; and the button bar. The information is presented in expandable areas, so you can quickly and easily click on the headings of the areas which you may be interested in.
Note: Other reports not mentioned in this topic are available in legacy PDF format, or in Excel or CSV format. N.B. The latter two formats are used because these are best suited to how you would want to use the data.
You can export or save your dashboard as a PDF or PowerPoint file, or the current view as an image (for further information, see the section on the Dashboard button bar below).
The content within each dashboard comprises some top-level general information applicable to all of the dashboard, followed by interactive visualisation which is presented on between 2 and 5 tabs depending on the type of report or dashboard you have created, followed by a footer.

Top-level general information is presented at the top of each dashboard.
Click on the image below to view an example.
This general information includes:
- The title of the type of dashboard e.g. Location Analyst | Detailed Projections.
- An overview about the dashboard; the purpose of the information; and its use.
- The population and household counts for your selected target area if these are available. If these are not available then "N/A" is displayed for these fields.
- The postcode count for your target area, depending on the dashboard. This is taken from the number of postcodes from your imported data file.
- The name you gave to the report, e.g. "Birmingham Area Customers". If you created a dashboard which lets you select more than one target area and you chose the option for a Separated report, then a suffix is added to the name you gave it. The suffix represents the name of the area, for example "Leicester - LE12" for a dashboard you have named "Leicester" and a suffix of " - LE12" for the LE12 postal area.
- The name of the selected target. If you created a dashboard which lets you select more than one target area and you chose the option for a Combined report, then the selected target is displayed as "Combined". If you created a dashboard which required you to import a data file for your target area, then the name of the selected target is taken from the name you gave your imported data file.
- The population and household counts for your selected base area, if these are available, i.e. if you have used a standard geography where these are available. If these are not available, e.g. because you have used an imported file for your base area, then "N/A" is displayed for these fields.
- The postcode count for your base area if available and depending on your dashboard. If you used a standard geography for your base area, then this field is set to "N/A". However, if you imported a data file containing postcodes for your base area, this field will shows the number of postcodes in your base area.
- The name of your selected base area, dependent on your dashboard. If you selected a standard geography this field will show the names of one or more areas that you selected (the text may be truncated if all of it cannot fit inside the box). If you imported a data file for your base area, then this field displays the name that you gave your imported data file. In this example "B" is displayed for the Birmingham postal area which was used
- Supplementary information and radio button controls which you can use to control the operation of the tab(s) which follows this section of the report (for further details, see the section below titled Dashboard filters or controls).

The main visualisation provided by each dashboard is presented on between 2 to 5 tabs. The number and type of tab that are available are dependent of the type of dashboard you have created. A brief description about what each tab contains is given below.
Summary tab
The Summary tab is available on most dashboards, and as the name suggests, provides broad high-level tables; bar, pie and bubble charts; and graphics specific to the purpose of the dashboard.
The Summary tab on most dashboards include a map showing the extent of your target area(s). You can zoom into and out of the map and pan around the map using standard controls such as your mouse wheel, or by clicking and dragging on the map. You can also use the map controls located in the top left-hand side of the map to perform similar functions.
Pop, HH & Gender Projections tab
The Pop, HH & Gender Projections tab is used with the Detailed Projections dashboard only. It presents interactive bar, line and pyramid charts related to population and household backcasts and projections, and by gender.
Age Projections tab
The Age Projections tab is used with the Detailed Projections dashboard only . It presents interactive bar and pyramid charts related to age band population backcast, current year and projections, and by gender.
Segmentation tab
The Segmentation tab is used on those dashboards related to FSS or Mosaic and also the Understanding Grocery Landscape dashboard. As the name suggests it presents interactive bar charts and profile charts related to the Groups and the Types within the segmentation.
It also shows the top 3 Groups and the top 6 Types in your target area. A cartoon or collage image representing typical people within that segment is also displayed.
Demographics tab
The Demographic tab is used on the Property Development Pack Mosaic 7, Understanding Demographics Mosaic 7 and Understanding Grocery Landscape dashboard. The tab presents interactive bar charts for demographic variable data grouped into topics such as age bands, ethnic mix, economically active, economically inactive, qualifications, income, unemployment rate, family income. lifestage and adults18+ by total expenditure.
For the Property Development Pack Mosaic 7 dashboard, the Income chart includes a Help ? icon which you can use to display a pop-up giving the average household income within your catchment area.
For the Understanding Demographics Mosaic 7 dashboard, the tab also includes bar charts and tables showing percentage change in the population of your target area(s) by gender in the next 5, 10, 15 and 20 years.
Depending on the dashboard, there are also pie charts for social grade, car and van ownership and gender.
Community & Cars tab
The Community & Cars tab is used with the Property Development Pack Mosaic 7 dashboard only. It shows the house value (in £) by residence type with icons representing each house type, and also the total house value for the catchment (in £); number of houses, average value (in £), the Local Authority District average value (in £) and the percentage difference between the two average values.
The tab also includes a series of interactive bar charts with an associated tab for average rent of social housing, length of residency, home ownership, and car ownership variables. A pie chart describing the perceived risk of burglary is also included, as well as a table showing the counts of various amenities in the catchment area such as banks, community centres, chemists, etc.
Income tab
The Income tab is used with the Understanding Income and Expenditure dashboard only. It presents interactive bar charts and tables related to the adult 18+ and household income variables.
Expenditure by Adults 18+ tab
The Expenditure by Adults 18+ tab is used with the Understanding Income and Expenditure dashboard only. It presents an interactive bar chart and table related to the adults 18+ by total expenditure variables.
Expenditure tab
The Expenditure tab is used with the Understanding Grocery Landscape dashboard only. It presents interactive bar charts and tables related to named major supermarkets, mid-sized supermarkets, discount retailers, frozen food retailers and convenience stores.
Raw Data tab
The Raw Data tab is available on all dashboards and displays a table showing all of the raw data that was used to create the charts in all the other tabs in the dashboard. Because of the amount of raw data, the table is presented in the full window, and a button is provided so you can quickly navigate back to the full view of the dashboard.
Note: There may be one or more blank values in the raw data. This is because these figures are either not relevant to the report, or the calculation of the value involves a divisor which has a zero value. For example, the calculation for penetration is (target count/base count) * 100. Therefore, in the event of the base count being 0, the penetration value is shown in the raw data as blank.
Most dashboards also include a table after the raw data which shows the source of the data used for each of the charts shown on the other tabs.

The dashboard footer is common to all tabs within the dashboard. It is used to display:
- the copyright date of the dashboard;
- the date you created or generated the dashboard;
- contact telephone number and email address for our Helpdesk if you have any queries;
- an abbreviated Experian logo.

All dashboards include one or more filters or controls which you can use to interact with the charts presented in your dashboard. These filters are either radio buttons, or drop-down lists. The types of controls that are available and where they are displayed is dependent of the type of dashboard and tab selected.
The following is a brief summary of the controls available:
- Select Chart radio buttons: use these to select whether your charts display percentage (the default), index or, where available, penetration % data. N.B. Charts, such as pie charts and bubble charts, which only use percentage values, are unaffected by any changes you make.
- Filter by radio buttons: use these to filter your charts by target area data or by base area data.
- Time Frame radio buttons: use these to filter your charts by data for the associated time frame.
- Match Level drop-down list: use the options in this list to select whether population, adults 15+, adults 18+, household level data is used for your charts.
- Chart Sort drop-down list: use the options in this list to sort for data in Mosaic or FSS segment order, or from the highest to the lowest value.
- Chart sort radio buttons: use these to sort your charts by the default sequence in which the variables are presented in the topic, or from the highest to the lowest value.
Note: With each change you make to a filter setting, the dashboard is redrawn. Because this can take a few seconds to complete for each change, you can use the Pause button on the dashboard button bar prior to making any changes and then click on the Resume button to start the redraw of the charts for all the changes you have made (see the Dashboard button bar section below).

You can display (and are encouraged to do so) supplementary information in a pop-up when you move your cursor over the name, bars, images and Help icon ? displayed by your dashboards.
This information includes the following information related to the item behind your mouse cursor: base and target figures, name and IDs; one-line description and selected ranking figures.

If you have a subscription to The Segmentation Portal and Mosaic UK 7 or FSS 4, you can access the Segmentation Portal directly from the associated Location Analyst dashboard, e.g. the Understand Your Customers > Mosaic UK 7 dashboard.
You can do this by clicking on the segment ID tile (e.g. A, B, C or A01, A02, A03, etc) on your dashboard. This automatically logs you into the portal and displays the Panels page with that segment selected.

To conserve space, dashboard reports are automatically deleted by the system after 90 days. Before this period has elapsed, it is recommended that you download and save these reports as another format using the Download button on the dashboard button bar at the bottom of the window.

A dashboard view is a visual presentation of your dashboard with a specific tab and/or with one or more filter settings selected. A view provides you with a shortcut of displaying your dashboard with those selections made, without the need to manually make them again.
You can click on the View button on the dashboard button bar to display a dialog which lets you create, save and manage different views of your dashboard. You can create a new view by initially selecting the tab and/or filters you require to use for that view, then clicking on the View button and giving your view a name and saving it.
When you initially create a dashboard the button bar identifies the current and default view as View: Original. However, you can also select one of your views to be displayed instead.

At the bottom of your dashboard window is a row of buttons which you can use to perform the operations described in the table below.
